1. Celebrations

• Congratulations to Elspeth Theriault on winning the lucky draw!

2. Announcements

• District Governor Gift: Rebecca from Bowmanville Rotary commision a painting as the gift; Shawna Moore will purchase flowers on behalf of both clubs. The visit will likely take place at Lightcaster Brewery and Taphouse.
• Oshawa Generals Suite: Available for rent. The club is interested—potentially for a Christmas party or a Peterborough Petes game. A vote will be held for a November or December date.
• Card Bingo: August 27 event is confirmed.

3. Guest Speaker

• Jamil Javini, MPP for Bowmanville-Oshawa North, introduced by Rachel Boyd.
• Mr. Javini shared his story of being raised by a single mother, struggling through school, and finding his voice through writing, law, and public service.
• He emphasized the importance of listening to unheard stories in the community and his commitment to serving with empathy and action.
• Current projects include:
  • Improving cell coverage in Durham dead zones (target: Thanksgiving)
  • Investments in Darlington Nuclear Energy and local trades programs
  • AI training pods and virtual classrooms in partnership with nuclear industry and colleges
  • Legislation to support hospitals as training centres for new doctors
  • Population growth and infrastructure planning
  • Courtice and Bowmanville GO train approvals pending provincial funding (tentative date: 2040)
• He agreed to assist the Rotary Club in drafting a proposal to the municipality for discounted rental rates for not-for-profits hosting community fundraisers.
• A group photo was taken and Connor Visser thanked Mr. Javini for attending.
