This isn't just a fundraiser — it's an investment in the future of our community. As Durham Region grows, so does the need for modern, accessible healthcare. By supporting the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation's "We Care, We Can" campaign, you're helping to build a facility that will improve care across Bowmanville, Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, and beyond. Your donation will help ensure our families, friends, and neighbours receive the care they need — when and where they need it.
While your ticket supports a great night out, every additional dollar donated will go directly to the Bowmanville Hospital Foundation. The government covers 90% of construction, but the remaining 10% and 100% of equipment costs are up to us.
The goal of the We Care, We Can campaign is to raise the required community share for the expansion and redevelopment of the Bowmanville Hospital. The provincial government will provide 90% of the capital costs, leaving the remaining 10% and all the equipment costs to be covered by the community. Estimated total costs are $736 million.
Outdated infrastructure limits capacity, efficiency, and patient care. The Emergency Department is handling double its intended patient load. No major upgrades have happened in 30+ years. The redevelopment will add modern facilities, attract doctors, and improve care.
Two new surgical suites (total of four), a larger Emergency Department, upgraded Diabetes/Nephrology and ambulatory spaces, helipad, private rooms, family areas, and modular design for future needs.
The bed count will increase from 78 to 178, with a focus on private patient rooms.
The ED will remain open during construction. After completion, a new emergency entrance will be located off Queen Street.
The new ED will nearly double in size and add triage and treatment space, streamlining patient flow and reducing wait times through better layout and proximity to surgical and diagnostic areas.
Yes, space is being created for pediatric and maternity care as demand rises. Maternal clinics and assessments will be part of future offerings.
The Eye Centre will remain in Bowmanville, continuing to serve Durham and surrounding areas.
A new expanded dialysis area will be included, with flexible space for future growth depending on Ministry of Health input.
Yes. Construction will be phased with minimal disruption. A new building will be built first, then services will move in before old structures are renovated or removed.
The project follows a Public-Private Partnership (P3) model. The government pays 90% of capital costs, and the community is responsible for 10% plus all equipment. Costs are paid upon substantial completion.
The estimated community share is $110.4 million.
The hospital is currently in Stage 2, working on operational and spatial planning with stakeholders. Stage 3 will define specifications for construction tenders.
